The Kansas City Singers is a professional project chorus. Performers are hired for 13 weeks, meeting for 2.5 hours each week. Within that compressed time frame, they accomplish what takes most choruses many months. They learn to blend their voices while remaining individual soloists. They prepare a complete concert series, a video production and a CD recording. They hone their existing talents while learning new ways to move, to act, and to sing.
Their staff includes a full-time Dramaturg to research the history and context of the music and a full-time Arranger to make the music appealing to the modern ear. New arrangements of old music, along with biographical sketches and cultural essays are placed in the Library of Congress and presented to the public through concerts, videos, CDs and books, as well as in public and private schools throughout the Midwest.
